Beauty through subtle simplicity was the general vibe of the Lorick Spring 2011 presentation. Inspiration by the minimalist Canadian-American painter Agnes Martin, and with a quote from Earnest Hemingway’s Moveable Feast on the program, the collection explores an inner tranquility externalized though draped cotton silk, overlayed silk chiffon, and constructed silk organza. The soft color palette complimented the fluidity of the collection as well.
I was most impressed with the make-shift accessories paired with the outfits and small details in the collection. Rhinestones placed behind a thick piece of clear tape and money strategically placed in the pocket of a transparent skirt were playful surprises that allowed a sophisticated wit to the collection. Holding the viewing in a more intimate setting, while slightly congested, allowed viewers to appreciate the detailing in the organza hats and creativity of the line. All in all, it was a successful presentation.
