Trend Alert: Desert Storm

Black Swan isn’t the only trend Kate and Laura Mulleavy–designers of Rodarte– are in touch with for Spring; tumbleweed clans finally have a place in fashion history. One of the biggest trends we are seeing this year is this desert rustic quality, especially in the Rodarte Spring ’11 line. The Mulleavy sisters are said to have gained inspiration from their native Northern California redwoods and a trip through art-deco ghost town Marfa, TX. Having visited the area myself, I was blown away by the translation into this chic-cowboy-meets-art-teacher-look. Other designers with looks inspired by the trend include Michael Kors, Celine, Dries Van Noten.

An insider hot-spot is the Prada exhibit on the way into town– takes on the form of a Prada store on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.
